Getting to Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum is located in Amsterdam’s museum quarter and is easily accessible by public transportation, car, and bike. Hop-on hop-off tours by canal boat or bus also stop near the Rijksmuseum. The location of the Rijksmuseum in central Amsterdam is easily accessible, and even more so if you plan your route.

By Public Transportation:

  • By tram (from Central Station) – lines 2 or 5 (exit at Hobbemastraat stop); from other locations in the city – tram 6, 7, or 10 (stop Spiegelgracht).
  • By bus: 145, 170, 172 (stop Hobbemastraat). Please note that the bus station Museumplein is far from the city museums.
  • By car: Exit the A10 ring road at S108 (Amstelveen) and drive to Centrum through Amstelveenseweg and De Lairessestraat. Take a left at the intersection with the Concertgebouw and try to park in the Q-Park Museumplein underground parking, located under the Museumplein.

The entrance to the parking is directly before the Concertgebouw, at the Albert Heijn store entrance. You will need to pass through the walkway to enter it. There is also a separate access for tour buses to the same parking, located nearby the Philips Wings, on the left side of the Museumplein at the Paulus Potterstraat.

Paid parking is available near the museum and there are also designated disabled parking spots nearby. There is a Q-Park Museumplein underground parking nearby at Van Baerlestraat 33b. Less expensive parking is available at P+R locations around the city. You can then proceed to the Rijksmuseum by public transportation:

  • P&R ArenA: take the metro to Weesperplein and then tram 7. Get off at the ‘Spiegelgracht’.
  • P&R Zeeburg: take tram 26 to ‘Rietlandpark’ then transfer to tram 7. Get off at the ‘Spiegelgracht’.
